ON THIS DATE in 1929, eighteen-year-old Bobbi Trout established an endurance record for female pilots by flying for 12 hours and 11 minutes. This broke the previous record by more than four hours. Trout received the nickname Bobbi — her real name was Evelyn — for her short “Bob” haircut.
