A Mormon living in Hamburg, Germany, Hübener became more and more disgusted with Nazi doctrine following Kristallnacht, or “The Night of Broken Glass,” a 1938 pogram against Jews throughout Germany.

Around 1941, Hübener began printing anti-Nazi pamphlets and recruited friends to help him distribute the literature. Denounced in 1942, he was convicted of conspiracy to commit high treason, and sentenced to death.

At seventeen, he was one of the youngest opponents of the Third Reich to be executed.
